CoTTR: Expanded Edition Devlog - Apr 24

It has been too long dear weary traveler, but rest assured — rumours of our demise  have been greatly exaggerated.

We were away from the studio for almost a month, and so we'd made less progress than was proper. Even so, what progress we did make were rather exciting.

If you are short of time on account of having to save the world or something else important, here is the gist of it:
Chronicles of Tal'Dun - Expanded Edition Backerkit Page

-We hired a professional editor and are heavily refining the text (replacing sage voice acting)
-5-6 pieces of artwork, reworks and new
-Small scale testing with discord members took place
-Full scale testing is planned for next month

-Ko-Fi and Patreon backers now get discounts on our prints based on tier
-You can now order packs of prints and get a discount
-We're having a prints sale on our Ko-Fi store, all prints 20% off. Go to end of post for link

You're still here? Good, come and have a seat and let me tell you of the happenings:
If you'll recall, two of our stretch goals were: voice acting for sage and professional editing.
Hiring an editor was the more costly of the two, on account of our ability to do the sage voice ourselves, and we did not quite make it to the editor goal.
But as luck would have it, when we sought some early feedback from our discord members—hang on a minute, this word "members" is grating my nerves a tad. It makes people sound like they're body parts, or some such. I will start calling players on our discord the Dunnish from now on, which is a proper title befitting one who inhabits the world of Tal'Dun. It is canon.
Anyway, one of the Dunnish gave us such good, and detailed (and occasionally brutal) feedback in terms of the writing that we wished they would give the entire text their unmitigated attention. After finding out that they were in fact an experienced editor, up for the job, and delighted with our game, we decided to relocate the funds we would've used on sage's voice acting to pay them instead.
We weighed on the one side drastically improved text for the whole game, and on the other voice acting for a minor character, and decided it was no contest. We sincerely hope you agree. If you could see the changes, we believe you would. There is overall much more consistency of style, and consistency in characters' speech. Muddy sections were cleared up, pacing was adjusted so that frantic and action scenes are snappier, and moody scenes are more drawn out, so that you can get more drawn in.

Editing tons of text all the time can dull the gray-matter, as can most activities if done monotonously over long periods. So, to keep things fresh, we have been sketching and drawing in-between our break-neck editing sprees. A friend/player/talented artist also contributed some art for us. As a result, we now have several more sketches for scenes from the game that were either notably missing, or were of a lower quality than the rest. These are not part of the stretch goals involving reworked art and new art, these are on top. Honestly, we don't think making these will add much, if any extra time to our timeline, since we would've used that time to simply rest, or play games, or something else. So I think these will simply be free bonuses. Of course, if we could garner some funds for the effort, it would go a long way towards sustaining our future works. If you want to do that, kindly visit our ko-fi shop where a sale is currently happening. ;)

The beginning of testing all hinges on the editing right now. We're estimating it will be in the second half of may when it'll be ready. Then we will invite our backers fellow Dunnish to gather their wits, pool their strength, and help us catch all the bugs and mistakes so that we can bring this game to its finish.

If you haven't already done so, now would be an excellent time to join our discord and become a bona-fide Dunnish. It's very likely we'll announce testing, and any new updates over there before our other channels.

If you love what we do and want to enable us to do more of it, consider backing us on ko-fi or patreon.

I just discovered it's possible go give discounts on our prints based on what tier backer you are, and frankly kicked myself a little for not implementing this sooner. Now all monthly backers get discounts on prints based on their tier.
The same functionality also allows creating bulk discounts for ordering multiple prints, so that is also a thing now.

We're also having a sale on all our prints over at the ko-fi shop which runs 2 weeks from today. Everything is 20% off, click here to pick up a few and help fund our future projects. What projects? I'm glad you asked. As soon as the expanded edition is finished, we will resume work on The Hunger — a game featuring Lura. Perhaps a continuation of Vyn's journey might also be in the cards? Who knows what tides may come!? Not I!

Thanks for your time and support! See you in the next update.
